Centiel provides backup power for critical systems at South Can Tho University, Medical Center, Vietnam
South Can Tho University Medical Center is a newly built hospital located in Hong Loan residential area, Can Tho City, Vietnam. With a total investment of more than VND800 billion, Nam Can Tho University Hospital now provides not only a place to practice and work for students of the university’s health department, but also a place for medical examination and treatment for people in Can Tho City and people in the Mekong Delta.
The hospital was opened in the first quarter of 2022 and now consists of 11 floors with 300 beds, with a construction area of over 25,000m2.
The hospital required a state-of-the-art uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to support its IT systems and medical operating equipment. The hospital team was looking for a reliable, efficient UPS with a compact design suitable for a medical environment.
After a competitive bidding process, South Can Tho University Medical Center selected Truong Khai Development (TKC), a partner and distributor of leading UPS manufacturer Centiel, to install Centiel’s industry- leading UPS solutions to provide backup power for the facility. Centiel’s competitively priced solutions were chosen for their high levels of efficiency, durability, and reliability.
Three units of Centiel’s PremiumTowerTM backed by Hoppecke batteries now provide half an hour of backup power for the hospital’s IT infrastructure, including servers, emergency lighting, and speakers, while three additional PremiumTower units support the medical equipment used for patient surgery and life support.
PremiumTower is a three-phase, double-conversion online UPS designed to maximize efficiency and minimize space requirements. PremiumTower delivers up to 415 kW per square meter of power while providing efficient and uncompromised availability. PremiumTower offers a best-in-class online operating efficiency of 96.6% in double conversion mode to minimize operating costs and reduce the total cost of ownership.
After months of planning, the PremiumTower UPS installation project was completed in three days by four TKC engineers supported by a project manager and four laborers. One of the main challenges was that the installation had to take place in a basement clean room with a narrow corridor. The hospital’s elevator could not be used, so the UPS and associated batteries had to be manually positioned through a small access opening. Connection and commissioning of the system took only two days.
TKC now supports the hospital with an annual preventive maintenance visit to ensure the UPSs continue to perform optimally to protect the medical center’s power supply.
