The megawatts a facility is granted and the megawatts that reach the compute floor in a well-specified power chain are close to the same number. Losses are known at every load point, not just at the design point. Footprint is small enough that white space stays available for racks. The basis of design carries figures the engineer can defend line by line.
Across much of Asia, and in Singapore in particular, that specification discipline has acquired a second purpose. It is no longer only how a facility performs. It is increasingly how a facility qualifies.
Where efficiency becomes an allocation criterion
Singapore’s Green Data Centre Roadmap sets a Power Usage Effectiveness target below 1.3 for new builds, and projects meeting or exceeding those efficiency standards may receive faster approvals and earmarked grid allocations. The second Data Centre Call for Application, launched in December 2025, put at least 200 MW of new capacity into a competitive process with green-energy and efficiency conditions attached.
The engineering consequence is direct. Efficiency has moved upstream, out of the operating-cost conversation and into the qualification conversation. A percentage point of conversion loss is no longer only a line in a TCO model. In a constrained market it is capacity that was allocated and did not arrive.
At the same time, rack densities in AI and high-performance compute environments are running at 30 to 120 kW and above, against a legacy baseline nearer 10 to 15 kW. Infrastructure sized for the older figure does not scale into the newer one by adjusting setpoints.
Efficiency at the load you actually run
StratusPower™ operates at 97.6% VFI, voltage and frequency independent, online double conversion. Centiel does not treat efficiency as something to be bought at the expense of reliability. The architecture is designed to support up to 9-nines availability (99.9999999%) with no single point of failure, and the efficiency figure sits alongside that, not instead of it.
Rated power and delivered power
Several StratusPower™ parameters exist to close the gap between what a UPS is rated at and what the load receives.
- Output power factor unity: kVA equals kW, so there is no reserved capacity lost to a derated output rating.
- Input power factor 0.99, with THDi at or below 0.9% on linear load and under 3% on non-linear load, and THDv under 1% on linear load. Figures that feed directly into upstream switchgear, generator and cable sizing rather than sitting on a datasheet.
- 24% extra safety power in each module, giving headroom above nameplate for the step behaviour typical of clustered compute.
- Input voltage window of ±30% to ±10% with defined derating below 80% and below 60%, declared according to VFI SS 111, and an input frequency range of 30 to 70 Hz.
Megawatts per square metre
In a land-constrained market, the plant room is competing with the compute floor. StratusPower™ delivers a footprint of 1 MW/m², covers 10 kW to 1,500 kW in a single cabinet and parallels to 3,750 kW, with cabinets from 375 kW to 1.5 MW. Modules weigh between 19 and 42 kg.
Where the requirement is distributed rather than centralised, the StratusPower™ Universal Rack format fits any 19-inch rack regardless of manufacturer, delivers up to 120 kW using 10, 20, 25 and 30 kW modules, and vents warm air to the rear of the enclosure.
The underlying architecture is Distributed Active Redundant Architecture (DARA™): each module is a complete UPS system in its own right, with its own computing power, three independent power converters, a static bypass and the hardware needed to isolate a fault safely without affecting the load.
Figures that survive a design review
StratusPower™ carries EN/IEC 62040-1, -2 and -3, CE, UKCA, EAC and RoHS. Design life is more than 30 years, with 15 or more years on capacitors and smart fans, and more than 100 measurement points across the system.
Centiel is Swiss made and engineering-led. The figures above are the ones we expect to defend in a design review, because that is where they will be tested.
